Bennett hurdling for podium finish
Having claimed his first national senior 110m hurdles championship title, Orlando Bennett says he aiming for a podium finish at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, come September.
"Overall goals for the season is a personal best, consistent times and a podium finish. Aiming for the stars !" he told STAR Sports.
With a wealth of podium finishes at the junior level, including being a two-time World U20 silver medallist and World U23 NACAC bronze medallist, Bennett says his chance of earning his first senior global medal is very high.
"My chances of getting a medal, in my head, is 100 per cent possible," the 25-year-old former Calabar High athlete said. "I've been working and getting better so self-doubt is not a factor."
At the senior level, he has already been at a few global finals, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, but to get that podium finish he will have some work to do.
"Race strategy wise, (there's) not much I can say, but preparations have been going well," he said.
To achieve his medal hopes, Bennett is happy with his performances so far this season.
"The season has been good, I'd say. A bit challenging, but I see progress so that's the greatest thing," he said.
